Support at Home in Brisbane

Support at Home is the Australian Government programme that funds care in your own home. It replaced the Home Care Packages Program on 1 November 2025. If you have been assessed through My Aged Care, Harwell can deliver your Support at Home services anywhere in the Brisbane area.

Funding is organised into three service categories. Clinical supports, such as nursing and allied health, are funded in full by the government. Independence services and everyday living services carry a contribution, scaled by an income and assets assessment. Since 1 October 2026 the government also fully funds approved personal care.

If you held or were approved for a Home Care Package on or before 12 September 2024, the “no worse off” principle applies: your contribution will be the same as, or less than, it would have been under your package. Read our Support at Home guide.

Choosing a Support at Home provider in Brisbane

Once you have a classification, you choose your own provider, and you can change later if it is not working. The useful questions are practical ones. How many different workers will come to your home in a month? Who answers the phone when something changes on a weekend? How much of your budget goes on care rather than administration, and will the provider put that in writing?

Continuity is what families notice most. Ask any provider directly how they keep the same carers with you and what happens when your regular carer is unwell. Our guide to choosing a provider goes through this in more detail.

What Support at Home costs in Brisbane

What you pay depends on your classification and your income and assets assessment, not on where in Brisbane you live. My Aged Care confirms your contribution before services begin. Private care needs no assessment: you pay the hourly rate directly, and our full schedule is on the pricing and fees page.

DVA and veterans' home care in Brisbane

As a DVA provider, Harwell delivers Veterans’ Home Care and Community Nursing to eligible Gold and White Card holders across Brisbane. Many approved DVA-funded services are available at no cost, and we confirm any contribution before care begins. See veterans and DVA care.
