Support that honours your service

Funded care options

If you’re a veteran or the surviving spouse or partner of a veteran, there are two main ways to access funded care at home through the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA). Both programs are designed to make life easier, safer, and healthier — and we’re here to guide you through the process.

Applying for DVA Clinical Nursing

DVA Clinical Nursing provides professional medical care at home for eligible veterans.

  • Gold Card holders – Eligible for all clinically necessary nursing services.
  • White Card holders – Eligible if the care is related to an accepted service-related condition.

If you’re unsure, call DVA on 1800 VETERAN (1800 838 372).

Your GP will:

  • Assess your health needs.
  • Provide a referral for DVA-funded nursing.
  • Outline what type of nursing care you require.
  • The referral is sent to a DVA-approved provider, such as Harwell Home Care. You can request your GP states Harwell as your preferred provider.
  • We’ll contact you to discuss your needs and arrange your care.
  1. We confirm your DVA entitlements.
  2. A nurse visits for an initial assessment.
  3. We create a personalised care plan.
  4. Nursing visits begin — delivered with compassion, professionalism, and respect.
  • Medication management
  • Wound care
  • Pain and symptom support
  • Chronic condition care
  • Post-hospital recovery
  • Overnight nursing and monitoring (if required)

Applying for Veterans’ Home Care (VHC)

VHC provides practical support so you can continue living independently and safely at home.

  • Hold a Gold Card or White Card.
  • Need help with daily tasks or safety at home.
  • Call 1300 550 450 to speak directly with the assessment team.
  • They will ask about your needs and arrange an assessment.
  • A VHC assessor will speak with you (by phone or at home) about the kind of support you require.
  • They will determine which services you’re eligible for and how often.

Once approved, you can start receiving support from an approved provider like us.

  • Domestic help (cleaning, laundry, shopping)
  • Personal care (bathing, grooming, dressing)
  • Respite care (short-term relief for carers)
  • Home and garden maintenance for safety (not renovations)
