Support at Home — in-home aged care with Harwell

Support at Home is the Australian Government’s program for in-home aged care. It helps older Australians stay safe, well and independent in their own homes, with the government funding most of the cost of approved services.

Harwell is an approved Support at Home provider delivering services across Australia. We provide everyday and clinical support that keeps life at home working, help around the house, personal care, nursing, allied health and respite, arranged around you, by carers who turn up and stay. If you have been assigned a Support at Home classification level, or you are about to be assessed, we can help you make the most of it.

Home Care Packages have now transitioned to Support at Home

Support at Home has replaced the Home Care Packages program. If you were previously receiving a Home Care Package, there are transition arrangements in place. We can explain what has changed, what has stayed the same, and what it means for your care, funding and contributions. The Commonwealth Home Support Programme will transition into Support at Home at a later stage.

How Support at Home funding works

After an assessment through My Aged Care, you are assigned a classification level — there are eight — that sets how much funding you receive each quarter. Higher levels mean more funding for people with greater needs. Your funding covers three areas — clinical care, independence, and everyday living — and we help you plan how to use it, quarter to quarter.

How Support at Home funding works

Clinical care — nursing, wound care, continence support, and allied health such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy and podiatry.
Independence — personal care (bathing, dressing, grooming), mobility support, social support, and respite so your carer can take a break.
Everyday living — domestic help such as cleaning and laundry, meal preparation and shopping.
Home safety — minor home modifications and equipment that help you stay safe at home.

What does Support at Home cost?

The Government funds most approved Support at Home services. Some services may include a contribution based on your circumstances and the type of support you receive. We explain your expected costs clearly before care starts, so you know where you stand.

Are you a veteran?

If you are a veteran or war widow or widower, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs may fund your in-home care through Veterans’ Home Care or Community Nursing — instead of, or alongside, Support at Home. Our DVA and Veterans’ Home Care team can help.
